Blogger Diary: 48 Hours in LA with Robin Lee.
Best party places.
The Cha Cha in Silver Lake: cheap drinks, foosball, a photo booth, and fiesta decorations. Harvard & Stone in Hollywood has a super cool dandy-ish décor and makes for excellent people watching (and the occasional celeb sighting). If you’re into something a bit more mellow, check out the back of Cole’s downtown, there’s Varnish, a “speakeasy” that serves super unique drinks. Edendale in Silver Lake is also fun! I could go on…there are tons of great bars!
Best lunch spot.
Forage in Silver Lake is great! Also Joan’s on Third, Figaro Café and The Alcove in Los Feliz, and Bottega Louie downtown.
The must dos – from an insider.
Hike up to the Griffith Park Observatory, take in the view, maybe have a high school moment and catch a laser light show. Afterwards grab a snack at Trails Café.
Venice Beach boardwalk and Abbot Kinney! Walk around, get your toes in the sand, shop the cute boutiques along Abbot Kinney. If you know how to surf, catch a wave! (Watch out for the local who hangs out nearby pumping iron in a gold speedo. You won’t miss him. He’s a local legend and is always there…in a speedo and rollerblades.) Then drive up PCH to Malibu and grab a bite at Malibu Seafood.
If you can, go to a Lakers game. The games are so much fun! Talk about intense fans and lots of action. Plus that lands you downtown, which has really great bars and restaurants.
Hollywood! A trip isn’t complete without a walk down Hollywood Blvd. Find your favorite star on the sidewalk. But if I were you, try and grab a show at the Hollywood Bowl while you’re there. You can picnic and then catch some amazing music—and it’s all outdoors!
Best shopping spot.
So many! I live in Silver Lake, so I’m always shopping around there and the Sunset Junction. I love Mohawk General Store in the Junction, Shareen Vintage, Confederacy in Los Feliz, REVOLVEclothing has a store in West Hollywood, and then Teonversix right across the street. 3rd street also has some great shopping, check out Satine! And Lady in Eagle Rock, she has great new and vintage clothing; it’s like going over to your bff’s house to shop.
Favorite beach spot.
I like hanging at the beach with my dog, so we head up near Malibu where there’s a dog beach, or where I can easily sneak her on a quiet one. Point Dume is great, and I love Topanga!
