FEATURED SONG: Rise Against - I Don't Want to be Here Anymore
RISE AGAINST – I DON’T WANT TO BE HERE ANYMORE
Rise Against. What more is there to say? The American alternative band play some of the best punk rock music in the business, and its their track ‘I Don’t Want To Be Here Anymore’ from their latest album ‘ The Black Market’ that takes this weeks ‘Featured Song’. The groups music brings back the 90’s and 2000’s real punk rock sounds, you know… before all that screaming hardcore music and songs about girls saturated the industry. While the band continue to have little hints of political views influenced through their lyrics, ‘I Don’t Want To Be Here Anymore’ also tells listeners a story.
“Rise Against has always been a political band, but also a personal band,” says lead singer Tim McIlrath. “We’ve always had songs that have a foot in both worlds. This album is a lot more introspective to me.”
While Rise Against continue to grace us with more music, they are also cementing themselves further in modern day punk rock. The Chicago band might have influences from other earlier punk bands including Bad Religion, Thrice and Millencolin, though nowadays have completely made their own sounds and rhythmic styles, something that shows the Rise Against’s true colours. You can almost picture ‘I Don’t Want To Be Here Anymore’ in a surf or skate movie from the early 2000’s, when punk music was the main soundtrack for many surfers and skateboarders and VHS was the only viewing option.
