Gab Strum is the new kid on the Aussie music scene. 17-years-old, the guy hasn’t even graduated high school yet. Better known for his musical moniker Japanese Wallpaper, Strum took out Triple J Unearthed earlier this year.
Continuing to flourish in the music realm, his recent single, ‘Between Friends’ has received praise from the likes of Goyte, Chet Faker and Bombay Bicycle Club. Churning out melodic vibes and a few soft sounds, Between Friends is the ultimate chill out track. His textured electronic sounds that progress throughout work so well with the vocals of fellow indie artist, Jesse Davidson. It’s the combination of minimalist instruments and more crowded percussion that give the song the whole moody delight feel. Tune in below.
The collaboration follows on from two other outstanding collaborations with Wafia and Pepa Knight. And who’s next on his list? Well, he’s dreaming about Bon Iver and Pheobe (ex-Snakadaktal).
This electronica pop delight is just a taste of what’s to come from the music prodigy. He’s touring New South Wales and Victoria, so snap up a few tickets for you and your mates before it’s too late. And, keep your eyes peeled for his new EP – it’s out soon.
