Melbourne’s hotly anticipated one-day sensory delight, Sugar Mountain Festival is back to celebrate their 5th birthday this weekend. The boutique music and visual arts event will be playing host to a cornucopia of home-grown and imported talent at the Victorian College of The Arts. Combining an eclectic mix of art and music across three outdoor and two indoor stages, Sugar Mountain will be showcasing headliners such as Nas, FunkinEven, Soul Clap, Midnight Juggernauts and London-based vinyl collective, Horse Meat Disco.

We caught up with Jim from Horse Meat Disco before he embarked on his epic 24hr flight to Melbourne…

What sets Sugar Mountain apart from other festivals for you?
This is the first time Horse Meat Disco have played at Sugar Mountain. I think the best thing about this festival is its boutique feel. I always feel a bit overwhelmed by enormo festivals, but I get the impression this will be more intimate – absolutely perfect.

For anyone who hasn’t caught you guys live yet, what can they expect from your set?
A whole lot of disco both classic, vintage and hot brand new stuff. We’ve been doing some remixing, as well on our own work which we’re really excited about, so you’ll be sure to hear some of that!

What is your go-to track for getting the party started?
“Hooked on You” by Cerrone.

Which artist can we see you cutting some shapes to after your 5.30-7pm slot?
As soon as we have finished I’ll be tearing over to see SWANS, which I haven’t seen for a long time, then a bit of Dexter, Soul Clap and finally… NAS!

You’re playing after the house duo 2Bears. Any thoughts on your transitional track selection?
They’re good friends of ours and we LOVE playing together – so how about Time Warp ?

For those unlucky few not attending Sugar Mountain, can we catch you playing anywhere else while you’re in OZ?
After Sugar Mountain we’re off to Perth for Connections on the 30th and then straight back to Melbourne for the closing tour night at The Toff In Town with our friend, Andee Frost.

Catch Jim and the guys from Horse Meat Disco at Sugar Mountain Festival this Saturday 24th. Check the rest of the line-up and bag last minute tickets here.
