Alana Blanchard. Does she really need an introduction? Just in case – model, pro circuit competitor, Hawaiian bombshell. Not to mention, she’s rumoured to be the highest paid female surfer in the world.

We took two with Alana to talk life in Australia, motivations as a professional surfer and what’s to come in the year ahead.

Alana, thanks for taking time to catch up! How have you been?
I have been really good! I’ve just been hanging out in Australia for about two months now.

So you spent Christmas Down Under? How was it?
It was amazing! I spent it with Jack’s (Freestone) family and friends, and I haven’t left since!

Who you are currently riding for?
Rip Curl, GoPro, Spy, Rockstar, Futures Fins and Modom.

How do you balance being a 24 year-old, professional surfer, spokeswoman and model?
I guess just being happy and in a good place in my life makes it all pretty easy. I think last year I found it a little hard just because I was stressed out on contests and just thinking about things I shouldn’t have been thinking about. Keeping healthy and fit makes everything better!

How do you stay motivated?
I think I’m just naturally just a little hard on myself, so I’m always trying my best at everything I do. Right now, I’m just trying to enjoy where I am at in my life and have fun with it.

Talk us through your training routines?
I’m kind of all over the place – I like to change it up. I’ve been boxing a little bit and love it. It’s really challenging and it’s really cool to be learning a new sport.

Any hobbies outside of surfing?
I love being apart of nature, so anything outside. I also like learning about health and fitness.

Word on the grapevine is that you might not be chasing the Tour as of this year?
Yes, as of now I’m going to try something different – something that will be exciting for me. I’ve been competing my whole life and I’ve never truly loved the whole competitive side of things. I kind of just liked where it has taken me and that I got to show the world that I can actually surf. I’m going to have a little fun this year!

We know you love getting involved with Rip Curl and their bikini ranges. Are there any projects in the woodwork at the moment?
Yes, there always is! We are always trying to make everything better with products, shoots and everything else involved that can help us!
