Meet Shaun Osborne – he’s your real-life Superman. Juggling Year 12, Australian Titles for kayaking, two jobs, and starring in SurfStitch‘s Autumn Campaign, he’s one busy 17-year old. We caught up with Shaun to find out his favourite shoot location, his morning routine and what he gets up to on Sundays.

Give us a brief run down on the Shaun Osborn story?
I was born on the 23rd of April 1997 with my twin brother, Dan. I have always loved the beach and have been lucky enough to grow up right next to it. I’ve been involved in surf life saving and sprint kayaking my whole life, and have won a number of Gold Medals at Australian Titles for both sports. I was also selected into the Australian Kayaking Team in 2014 with my brother. As a team we travelled to Europe to compete in the Olympic Hope World Titles, and unfortunately missed out on the final by less then a second. I’m currently in Year12 battling to juggle school, a social life, modelling, training, leisure and sleep… but I am enjoying every second!

Describe yourself in 3 words…
Beach, beach and beach…

Where are you based?
A little town called Caves Beach in Newcastle, NSW. It’s a one road in, one road out type deal.

What do you get up to when you’re not behind the lens?
Year 12 has been taking up a lot of my time lately. I work as a surf coach for Newcastle Surf School most weekends and I’m also a kitchen hand at the local resort.

Any hobbies or interests?
I think I will be able to answer this question better after the HSC… I can’t wait to travel and see the world! But for now, I enjoy hanging out with mates, surfing, training and music.

What was your favourite shoot location on the SurfStitch AW15 campaign?
Manning Lookout at Fitzroy Falls – it was amazing. Our tired eyes from the 5am wakeup were quickly encapsulated by the landscape in front of us. The sun was creeping up over the mountains, whilst mist and fog covered the valley. Photos just don’t do it justice.

What pieces from the ‘A Blank Canvas’ trend will we see you wearing this season?
Lets just say, I will be gifting SurfStitch with a lot of my funds when the product from the campaign is up onsite.

What was your favourite outfit when shooting the ‘A Blank Canvas’ trend?
My favourite was definitely one of the stylist’s most creative outfits. I was wearing the Cheap Monday leather jacket and light blue Dr. Denim jeans.  But, the rad Happy Socks socks were the highlight of my outfit!

I heard the cheeseburger at Bernie’s Diner is pretty unreal, what do you recommend we order?
Bernie’s Diner was sick! A traditional 50’s style American diner. I recommend the $3 cheese fries. But yes, you heard right with the cheeseburger- it’s a winner!

What was the funniest thing that happened on the shoot?
Gabby and I had to canoe across a rapid to a little inlet on the other side of the river. I knew we had to paddle fast, but didn’t quite know the power of the rapid we were about to face. We even allowed for the pull of the rapids and aimed our canoe slightly to the right of the inlet. This wasn’t enough… 2 meters from the rapids, we were steered into a rock and capsized – fully dressed in our outfits. The team on the bank were ready to dive in and swim out to us as we continued floating down the river. We were both absolutely loosing it because merely seconds earlier we were joking around about how refreshing it would be to fall in, and it was.

What’s been playing in your headphones lately?
I currently have my phone on repeat listening to music by the following artists: Ziggy Alberts, Nathan Hawes, Louis Boyd, Joel Legget, Grace Pitts, Jessey Mcguire, Ben Howard, The XX, and Kyle Lionhart. Just to name a few haha!

Describe your morning routine?
Wake up, check the surf, make breakfast (usually some sort of muesli with Greek yogurt and fruit), grab a towel, jump in the car and dive in the ocean on my way to school.

What’s your ideal Sunday?
Sunday is generally my lazy day unless the surf is good. It’s my day to watch movies, catch up on school work and pretty much just recharge for the week to come.
