Read on to find out what makes Christy tick.
Thanks for taking the time to catch up Christy, how’s life?
It;s good! I just got back from a yoga & surf retreat in Nicaragua!
When you first entered the scene you seemed to have popped out of thin air, blowing everyone away with your hungry attitude. Talk us through kicking off your career?
It took me a while to get off the ground it. Between injuries and finical struggles, it took me a little longer than most to break through onto the world stage.
What was it like reaching your making it big-time after chasing the dream for so long?
I’m really thankful for all the support that I have around me, so I can continue to push my riding. It was hard work but that just makes it all the more satisfying.
You’ve been praised as having one of the best styles in the game. Do you draw inspiration from anyone in particular?
I believe style is a personal preference and differs from person to person. Personally, I watch a lot of different riders with different riding styles and take bits and pieces from each. I enjoy watching people with good board control that look like they can just really ride their snowboard well. You can tell when a rider puts a lot of focus on ‘attention to detail’ with their tricks. I appreciate that.
What do you get up to when you’re not on the mountain?
Probably at yoga… Haha.
How long have you been riding?
Favourite mountain in the world?
SnowPark NZ (RIP).
How does the snow at home compare to the rest of the world?
Shorter seasons, not as much pow, park laps for days.
Pick a favourite – contests, video parts or free runs?
Hitting kickers or bombing mountains?
As long as it’s with friends, I’m down for it all.
What’s your biggest achievement?
Name 5 things that keep you sane when travelling all over the world?
iPhone, yoga mat, Nutri Bullet, ear plugs and coconut oil.
