Stab in the Dark: John Robertson of Robo
Welcome back to Stab in the Dark. By now you’ve seen what Julian Wilson did with our collection of cleanskin boards from the world’s best shapers. You also know that Darren Handley (DHD) won. But, now it’s time to meet the gentry behind the other crafts that made for such compelling viewing in our mini-documentary.
Robo aka John Robertson has been shaping for three years in San Clemente, and pumped out 500 boards last year. The board he made for Stab in the Dark, #36, took him three blanks til he was happy.
“It felt fast,” says Julian Wilson of the Robo, “and in certain waves, bigger and hollower it’d work, but I wouldn’t be riding it everyday.”
