#TOURNOTES: John John Florence Tackles Waimea Bay
We all saw the hype around the solid swell that hit the Hawaiian Islands last week. The day at Jaws was one to remember, with Aaron Gold paddling into what some are calling the ‘biggest wave ever paddled.’ Around the same time just two islands across on O’ahu was John John Florence, equally scoring solid waves just down from his home at Waimea Bay.
After driving an hour from the North Shore to Honolulu Airport ready to board a plane to Maui to score his very own Jaws monster, John unwillingly missed the flight, forcing him to make the drive back home and jump in the water for what we would call one of the bigger sessions we’ve seen him be apart of.
In this latest edition of #Tournotes, the man himself tells us all about the three and half hours spent in the water, and what it’s like to wipeout with only a handful of other guys out, including Kelly Slater and brother Nathan.
