VOLCOM X HOTEL STEYNE TAKEOVER – WHAT WENT DOWN
VOLCOM + SYDNEY’S HOTEL STEYNE + AUSTRALIAN OPEN OF SURF = GOOD TIMES!
Last week, the crew at Volcom took over the infamous Hotel Steyne in Manly, to coincide with the antics of the Australian Open of Surf. With a jam-packed schedule of demos, promos, bands and artists there was something for every punter that walked through the door. With Ozzie Wright, Andrew Doheny and Noa Deane on board and a mini ramp in residence, the Steyne was transformed for one glorious week into a hub of live art, free drinks and rad tunes.
Lucky for you, we’ve got the daily goods on what went down! Scroll down for the good times.
The mini-ramp was opened for business while iconic Volcom Surfer, artist and front man of band Goons of Doom Ozzie Wright perched in the ceiling spray painting a giant wooden row boat – not something you’re likely to see twice.
Tuesday saw two talented Aussie artists let loose on the walls of the Steyne. Mural master Gemma O’Brien plastered the Pool Room with her graphic genius while Sydney’s Anthony Lister sprayed the symbol of Manly’s local football team on the walls of the courtyard.
The third day of the hotel’s takeover saw the mini ramp reintroduced, this time with the Boarders Skate store Mini Ramp Jam, an open entry comp focusing on best trick. Following the skating, guests were treated to the movie premiere of Metal Neck 2, The Bangover. To cap things off, garage rock band The Bleeding Knees Club jumped on stage for a live show.
Day four and another big one! Upstairs of the hotel saw Surfing World’s short film competition awards, while the Volcom and Vans skate teams demoed the mini ramp, which to much disappointment was rained out after the first hour. never fear! Live performances by The Mammals and Flower Truck quickly helped guests forget the weather and kept the crowd partying.
Trivia! All things surf, skate and snow with 4 major prizes from all supporting sponsors! Then of course beers and with live tunes from Los Tones and Jackie Brown Jnr.
Day 6, the night finally came for the much anticipated Volcom x Stab party at the upstairs venue of the Hotel Steyne aka Moonshine Bar. Guests rocked out in style with performances from Powerlunch (Andrew Doheny’s band) and Blister (Noa Deane’s band) along with a special guest appearance from Ozzie Wright.
