Q&A With Krista From Mylookbook
Today we’re super excited to chat with style blogger, trendsetter and fashion aficionado, Krista, from Mylookbook.com.au about blogging, her personal style and much more!
Why did you decide to start a blog?
I started blogging in 2008. I actually started the Mylookbook digital magazine before the blog as I really wanted to do create something a bit different to what was already out there. I’ve always loved magazines but was frustrated that it was such a long process to find a product that I might have fallen in love with in a magazine. I had an idea one day that if I could combine the enjoyment of flipping the pages of a magazine however be able to click through to purchase a product that I liked, then it would be a perfect combination!
Where did your entrance into the fashion world begin?
I was involved in the Surf Industry for a long time as my husband was a professional bodyboarder. We ran 2 bodyboard retail stores and an online store. In 2006 a friend suggested that I should put my ecommerce knowledge and love of fashion into my own online store and I created and launched online boutique www.australianflavour.com.au. I did that for a few years before starting Mylookbook which then started to take on a life of it’s own so I sold AutralianFlavour to concentrate on Mylookbook.
What makes your blogging style unique?
The mylookbook blog is reflection of my own taste in fashion plus a little bit of my personal lifestyle & other interests such as travel, food and design. I’m not a personal style blogger because I feel completely awkward in front of a camera (I’ve always been way more comfortable taking the photos). I absolutely love personal style bloggers though and love to feature them on the mylookbook blog and talk about their outfits. I try to make the Mylookbook blog a carefully edited mix of trends, my favourite streetstyle photos, personal bloggers and anything else that interests me at the time. I wouldn’t say that my blog is unique, it’s just a reflection of what I love and if people have a similar taste to me I guess they will enjoy reading it!
What advice would you give to any budding bloggers out there?
Just find your own voice and write about what you love or appeals to you. You’ll attract others with similar taste and they will read your blog. Don’t try to appeal to the masses, just focus on your niche and stay true to yourself.
What are you up to these days…aside from blogging?
I’ve had a really crazy 12 months. Unfortunately blogging doesn’t pay the bills so I also work full time in digital marketing. I’m doing a writing course right now and also currently putting together an Autumn/Winter Issue of the Mylookbook Digital Magazine. I’m constantly frustrated that there just aren’t enough hours in the day to fit in everything I need to!
How would you describe your personal style?
My style is simplistic. Although I love looking at and admiring people who can drape themselves in cutting edge fashion and top it off with the perfect accessories, I’m more of a drapey smock dress and havaianas thongs type of girl.
Do you have any favourite designers?
I’m fascinated by Dion Lee at the moment. The clean lines, beautiful tailoring and clean structure are absolutely stunning. I’m also loving Magdalena Velevska. When it comes to more affordable Aussie Brands I love Lilya, Nookie, Shona Joy and Joveeba.
What’s your current fashion obsession?
I’m obsessed with petite strappy feminine style heels right now but they’re hard to find as everything is wedged. I’m also loving pastel colours, loose knitted jumpers, colourful blazers and anything in animal print.
Do you have any style icons?
Absolutely! I would wear anything I’ve ever seen on Miroslava Duma. I’m also constantly gushing over photos of Christine Centenera and Sweedish blogger Sabrina Meijer from AfterDrk.com
What four items from SurfStitch can you not live without?
It’s hard to narrow it down to 4 as there are so many beautiful things online right now! If I had to choose 4 though it would be the August Street PM Drape Dress, Nikita Bris Dress, Volcom Blarin Tunes Dress and the Billabong Broken Dreams Top!
