Weekend wonders close to home
The beautiful Gold Coast is experiencing a transitional period just before the beginning of Spring where it’s not yet warm enough to swim at its’ breathtaking beaches, but is far too sunny to be indoors. Luckily, there are many beautiful regions within weekend road trip distance.
Currumbin Rock Pools
The ideal picnic spot – hidden in the Currumbin Valley, the Currumbin Rock Pools provide a partially sun soaked, partially shaded bank looking onto an expansive rock pool being filled by rocky streams, and surrounded by beautiful forestry. With few visitors, parking close by and restroom facilities, you and your friends can enjoy the beauty of the area over breakfast or lunch. For those who are more adventurous, the area also boasts kilometres of hiking along the creek bank.
Footing only the cost of travel to Brisbane and the ferry fee, within an hour you can find yourself on the incredible Moreton Island. For a weekend away, Moreton Island can offer either beach-side indulgence with its’ crystal clear lagoons and creeks, or exploration and adventure with its’ National Park, 4 wheel drive access and campsites. By splashing a bit of extra cash, you can travel directly to Tangalooma Beach, and stay at the Tangalooma Island Resort – famous for the dolphins that frequent its’ shores. You can opt to pay to feed them, or if you’re lucky and have great timing, you may just come across one close to shore!
With a slightly longer drive time (just over 2 hours), you can find yourself in a beautiful beachside town 200 kilometres north of the Gold Coast. Why travel so far for the same stretch of sand you ask? Noosa’s relaxed air, boutique shopping on Hastings Street and change of scenery can create a sense of having a weekend getaway.
With so many new places to explore, don’t forget your travel essentials! Sunhat, great shades, spring dress and cute canvas shoes!
