We caught up with one of the brainchildren behind cool Cali swimwear label, Tavik. Living and breathing modern beach culture, so does their Women’s Creative lead. Whether she’s sipping cocktails poolside in Palm Springs, jetting of to Mexico’s exotic Tulum, or designing the new spring/summer 15 swimwear collection at Tavik HQ her life sounds pretty darn exciting.

Meet Carly Osler.

What’s your role at Tavik?

Women’s Creative. I conceptualise and design the women’s swimwear,  apparel and accessories. I am also heavily involved in all of our social media platforms and work closely with Marketing and PR.

When did you start working at Tavik?
Summer of 2014.

Walk us through the design team’s innovation process for the spring summer 2015 collection?
For me, the 2015 collection started while browsing through my personal collection of vintage Vogue magazines from the 90s. It was this inspiration that helped create most of the shapes you will see. I love the sexy silhouettes and modern, sporty vibe. Originally  from Canada, I have a strong appreciation for the Californian landscape and its unique colour palette. I was inspired by all parts of CA – from Malibu sunsets to gritty downtown LA buildings. The designs were also influenced from street style and the Southern CA beach culture.

What will we see you wearing from the new collection?
One of my favorite suits from the 2015 collection is the KORA top – A demi cup underwire top with mesh paneling, paired with our classic JAYDEN bottom. Both pieces are perfect for my next Palm Springs weekend getaway, where you can find me poolside sipping on a Desert Facial (one of my all time favorite cocktails at the Ace Hotel.)

Where is Tavik HQ?
Orange County, CA

Describe your workspace?
I share an office with our Men’s Designer, Jordan Raths. He’s really dreamy and shares my love for pizza.

Walk us through a typical day at Tavik HQ…
No day at our HQ is a typical day… But, we are lucky enough to have a chef on hand and a group of rad girls, who have me breaking out a dance move at any given time just for a good laugh!

Describe the Tavik team in 3 words…
Modern, beach and culture.

The fashion industry is a bit of a hard one to crack, how did you get your foot in the door?
I got my start in the fashion industry at age 15, working in retail in my hometown of Kelowna, BC Canada. Later,  I graduated fashion school with a Visual Merchandising and Design Degree, in Vancouver, BC. Over the years I worked in many different parts of the fashion industry, including running my own showroom for the West Coast of Canada. I made the move to CA in the summer of 2011 and got a lucky start through networking and my personal Tumblr; 100shadesofgrey (named before the book!). All of this landed me my current position at Tavik.

What’s been playing in your headphones lately?
ilovemakonnen – Tuesday remix with Drake.

Describe your morning routine…
Most mornings start off quite early… At around 6:45am  I head to the gym for Spin class followed by a stop at Starbucks for a Grande non-fat latte with cinnamon.

Where’s paradise?
White sand, palm trees, no phone, good food, a glass of Rose and my ride or die, Mark Powell.

Next trip?
Morocco is at the top of my list of places to visit, but the next trip I have booked is Tulum, Mexico for a friend’s wedding.

What’s the next big thing coming out of Tavik?
The release of Tavik Women’s Apparel for Spring/Summer 2015, which we are really excited about. The range consists of luxe casualwear that can easily be transitioned from day to night.
