We caught up with Design Consultant, Maria Kimm to talk all things Assembly. The brainchild of artistically inclined, Damien Horan and clothing designer, Dan Oliver, together with their Sydney-based team they’ve hit the nail on the head. Influenced by the likes of overseas counterparts, APC and Maison Kitsune, The Australian-born label is known for its simple and classic designs. Think well-cut tees, structured button downs and tailored shorts.

Catch up with Ms. Kimm to get the scoop on the what’s next to come out of Assembly, her favourite pieces from the new collection and a typical day in the life of a design consultant.

Where’s Assembly based?

Describe your workspace environment in 3 words…
Organised, unorganised & chaos.

Walk us through the design process for Assembly women’s summer 14 collection?
After solidifying who the Assembly girl is, we started with the foundation of the range. A lot of work was put into defining the key pieces that are essential in every outfit. From there, we were able to design garments to complement the basic items in the range, while keeping true to the Assembly ethos ‘fine design for modern living’.

What will we see you wearing from the summer collection?
Shorts, reverse tank, the silk shirting!

Can you give us a sneak peek into what we can expect to come out of Assembly next season?
In addition to new colour-ways and prints to the existing wardrobe staples, you can expect to find some more exciting layering pieces and outerwear!
