Welcome back to Fin Talk. In today’s episode, we catch up with current World Number One and all round legend, Mick Fanning.

From the shark incident at J-Bay, to winning the Hurley Pro at Trestles in California, Fanning has created waves this year both in and out of the water, and one thing to thank on the performance side of things is the trusty equipment the Coolie Kid has under his feet.

Join Mick as he discusses the benefits of his signature model FCS fins in the water, and find out why the bottoms of his favourite boards are now all a peaceful shade of blue.

The FCS II MF Fin:
With dynamic flex patterns and ability to provide maximum drive, the FCS II MF Fin is best suited to high performance surfing. Perfect for those looking for bursts of speed and controlled power in their turns and snaps.

“I broke out on my of glass on fins and sent that down to get templated…They are actually like a composite, glass on the outside and then a hexalyte sort of core on the inside.” – Mick Fanning.

When talking about his new board dimensions and characteristics, “It’s got carbon put on the bottom, I didn’t ask for it, it just happened. It changes the flex, like your front foot flex, especially at places like Trestles, where you are pushing so hard you want that spring back quick, you know, it felt good! I actually rode it the day before the Final’s (in California).

Now, we know the boards below may not be Mick’s current DHD model, the ‘Ducks Nuts’ (those are still on the way), but these others will still give you a fair idea of the fine surf crafts Mr. Darren Handley is capable of and why he is regarded as one of the best shapers in the world today.
