DEUS 9 FOOT AND SINGLE: Day 2 Womp Comp Recap
The 7th annual Deus 9 Foot And Single festival is now in full swing! Yesterday saw the Deus Womp Comp enlighten the beach spectators on the art of boards-free, crash-smash bodysurfing, with the action kicking off at 7am in a flurry of fin flapping freestylers.
The weather gods threatened and beckoned though held off. The wind blew a few umbrellas inside out and folded the lip on the swells a little earlier than the competitors would have liked but stayed mostly at bay. The crowd were kept on their toes by a string of would-be comedians led by none other than T.Mars. The competitors swam in hard and fast and let themselves be lifted up and thrown perilously out, forward and down over the razor sharp and shallow reef that makes this right such a good surf spot.
The foam ball hustle ended up spitting four of them into the finals: Dylan Kaszmerick, Harrison Roach, Matt Cuddihy and Riki Gilbey. They posed for photos before dancing across the burning sands for one final battle of the watermen before heading out to party with the Allah-Las in the Deus Temple courtyard until the wee hours.
Who won? Sorry no sneaky bits of info here, all will be revealed on Sunday night to see who took out the title. For now, enjoy a few snaps of the event and if you’re in Bali, head down to Pererenan Beach Canggu for the Log Fest, running from 7am!
